Music Video Service for Sports Bars

Our music video system combined with our new sports bar specific digital signage content gives you the ability to create a stadium quality “Game Day” show in your sports bar.

Most of the great ideas for our music video service for bars come to us when we are sitting in a bar. You could call this an occupational hazard!

I recently went to the Toronto Maple Leafs season opener. Unfortunately right up until they changed the channel to the game, the bar made little attempt to celebrate the season opener. What made this the most interesting is the place was packed and over half of the people there including me, had their Leaf gear on.

During the game, the broadcast would televise the courtyard outside of the Air Canada Center. It was electric. That was a light bulb moment. The only difference between the bar and the courtyard was the content creating the electricity.

What if every time the home team scored, sirens went off, signs lit up?

What if the TV’s were used to create a Tailgate Party before the game to get the home team fans pumped up?

What if we created an automated pre game experience?

The result of that evening, the Leafs defeated the Habs 4-3 in Montreal and the controlPLAY team got to work on automated Pre Game and Post Game music video programs.

The Power of the Playlist

I had the pleasure of going to a BBQ with friends this past weekend. They had a good playlist going with primarily gold rock hits and then all of the sudden bam, Waylon Jennings! The song did not fit the playlist on paper, however, it was just what it needed to shake things up. The conversation immediately went to the track with typical comments, “I haven’t heard that in a while” to” I was raised on Waylon Jennings”. The host replied “ I wanted to throw in some country that wasn't country”.

I’m not sure if I agree with “that wasn't country”, however, it created a great vibe, conversation and added to a great night with friends. Isn't that what your playlist is supposed to do?

Southwest Foodservice Expo ’13 on the horizon for controlPLAY!

Next month, we’re touching base in Dallas, TX to attend this year’s Southwest Foodservice Expo on June 23rd and 24th.

Fanfo Sports News Feed

Fanfo was another one of those ideas that came to us when we were sitting in a customer’s sales environment. That is a politically correct way of saying we were in a bar at the end of a work day on the road.

At this particular sports bar, they had sports schedules and standings printed off of a website and attached to bulletin boards at various sites. I thought it was a great idea. It is relevant information that their customers want to know. The challenge was that some of the bulletin board locations made for awkward places to hang out and check out the standings. Additionally, the font size of the printouts made them difficult to read.

I went back to my wings and beer to tell my associate that I think it is a great idea to engage customers by posting standings for them to view and potentially discuss. Opportunity two surfaced twenty minutes later as the MMA PPV came on the TVs. I didn’t even know there was an event being broadcasted. We ended up staying and having more food and drinks to watch the matches.

My associate and I discussed that we were within minutes of leaving had we not known the PPV was airing. The discussion progressed to how bars could leverage their existing TV real estate to provide sports standings, schedules and upcoming events. We agreed that this had to be automated, updated daily and provide the bar owner the ability to select only the relevant sports to their customers.

As a provider of music, music videos and digital signage to bars, controlPLAY seemed to be a logical network to deliver this information.

We finished our drinks and wings. Jon Jones defeated Vitor Belfort in the fourth round and the concept of fanfo was born.

St Patricks Day is a great day!

The history of the day started as a celebration to commemorate the life of the Irish patron of Saints, St. Patrick and has become a celebration of Irish culture.

It’s a day of celebrating friendship while sharing a pint (or two), wearing the Irish green and enjoying the sound of Ireland.
Our programmers have created a great new Irish Pub music video mix. We have been sampling it in the office. I could listen to it every day.

Now is the time to start promoting that your bar is where friends meet on St Patrick’s Day by integrating digital signage into your music video programs.
